Crime in the united states: the past half-century: violent crime indexes are comprised of murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults, property crime indexes consist of burglaries, larceny thefts, and vehicle thefts. By 1991 violent crime was at 758 and property crime at 5,140. Violent crime increased by 371% and property increased at 198%. In 1991 both rates started to drop and by 2012 the violent crime rate was at 387, and property crime rate at 2,859.
