Personality disorders: a persistent pattern of emotions, cognitions, and behavior that results in enduring emotional distress for the person affected and/or for others and may cause difficulties with work and relationships. With some disorders, others around the individual must make the decisions whether the individual has functional impairment that is impacting their lifestyle for them to be diagnosed. The dsm 5 lists ten personality disorders, but people with these disorders are often found to have other mental disorders occurring with them. Personality disorders are viewed as all or nothing. You either have the disorder or you do not. They do not rates you on how ocd you are, just that you have he disorder. This model focuses on a continuum of disturbances of self (how you view yourself and your ability to be self-directed) and interpersonal (your ability to empathize wand be intimate with others) functioning.
