PSYC 3250 Chapter Notes - Chapter 17: California Psychological Inventory, Thematic Apperception Test, Validity Scale
Document Summary
The first attempt to measure personality traits through the use of a test is usually accorded to fernald. A milestone in test measuring was reached after wwi. The need to select personnel for the military led to the development of instruments that are designed to predict whether a new recruit would make a satisfactory adjustment to the military. Next, the best improvement was the appearance of multiscaled tests leading to projective and empirically derived methods. The basis for decision making shifted to the inherent mathematical relationships that existed among test items. Empirically based personality tests essentially branched out in two major groups: factor analysis and criterion referenced tests. Those in projective testing were interested in developing measures of personality that were more global, less subject to distortion and defensiveness and more directed at the hidden facets of personality. Objective: contain highly structured, clear, unambiguous test items that are objectively scored.
