Projective tests- unstructured, ambiguous terms that encourage projecting personality into tasks using hidden wishes, attitudes and needs. Designed to measure normal personality variables in adolescents and adults. Has recently undergone a third revision and now has 434 items. This allows the test user to classify people into specific groups on the basis of their interpersonal behavior and to predict how they will function in specified situations. General scheme followed was to select two groups of people who differed with respect to a particular psychological trait and have them complete the inventory. Administration and scoring of the cpi is quick and easy, Can be individual or group setting in less than an hour. Cpi includes features that enhance its validity and interpretability, including a normative sample 3x the size of original norm sample, more detailed reporting, and updated computer based scoring systems.
