Health gradient: the relationship between mortality rate and ses. Death gradient: mortality is higher in regards to those who live in poor ses. First discorvered by villerme in 1820 looking at residents in paris. Social darwinism the former theory focused on controlling specific pathogens rather than social reform. Black report: those in class v (unskilled) are in worse conditions than those in class i (professionals) Scientific explanations inequalities across an individual"s life: any explanation needs to consider the psychosocial systems and structure. In terms of low ses, they accumulate across each of the four ecosystems known as an accumulation and clustering of each factor creating the health gradient. Lay explanation researcher"s found that working class individuals, especially women are reluctant to accept that they are less healthy than middle-class individuals. Those who did accept it say it is different access to health care. Professional women accept the health gradient indicating that it does attribute to poorer health.
