Police are now often times using social media to recruit new candidates. Police selection procedures: a set of procedures used by the police to either screen out undesirable candidates or select in desirable candidates. Standford-binet intelligence test was used in 1917 to measure iq found 80 was the minimum iq score for future applicants. Then used personality tests to test performance and now psychological and psychiatric screening is used to try and nd best candidates. Stage 1: job analysis stage, the agency must de ne knowledge, skills and abilities (ksa) of a good police of cer. Usually conducted by psychological analysis working together with of cers. Issue: stability of a good of cer can change over time so its hard to test, different jobs done from of cers need different ksa, many people disagree on what good ksas are. Essential ksas: honesty, reliability, sensitive to others, good communication, high motivation, problem-solving skills, team player.
