Were told to pay attention to only one input (the attended channel) and to ignore the stimuli in the other ear (the unattended channel) Then given the shadowing" task (to repeat what the heard in the attended channel: surprisingly most participants shadow perfect, but hear barely anything from the unattended channel. Participants told to focus on the white players dribbling a basketball, most completely miss the gorilla in the middle of the game. Can only report if the speaker in unattended channel was male or female, low or high voice, or speaking loud or soft. Some unattended input do leak through" and get noticed, more specifically when the unattended voice said the participants name, a movie they liked, fave restaurant etc (personal importance gets noticed)
