PSYC 2390 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Fusiform Face Area, Distributed Computing, Voxel
Document Summary
Computers fail to solve problems that humans easily do. The simulus on the receptors is ambiguous: inverse projecion problem. The perceptual system job is to determine the object that formed the image on the reina. Objects can be hidden or blurred: people can easily perceive whole objects even when they are parially covered. Objects look diferent from diferent viewpoints: viewpoint invariance. The ability to recognize objects from diferent angles: humans can easily tell an object from any viewpoint, but this isn"t so easy for computers. Perceptual organizaion is the process by which elements in the environment become perceptually grouped to create our percepion of objects. Process by which visual events are put together into units or objects: segregaion. Process of separaing an area or an object from another. The gestalt approach to perceptual grouping: what causes some items to become grouped, structuralism.
