Document Summary

Emotions: a response of the whole organism, involving physiological arousal, expressive behaviours and conscious experience. The theory that our experience if emotions is our awareness of our physiological response to emotion-arousing stimuli. The theory that an emotion-arousing stimulus simultaneously triggers physiological responses and the subjective experience of emotion. Two factor theory: the schachter-singer that to experience emotion one must be physically aroused and cognitively label the arousal. Cognition may not precede emotion: zajonc, ledoux and lazarus. Have emotional reactions apart from or before our interpretation of a situation. Have acutely sensitive automatic radar for emotionally significant information. Emotions response can follow two different brain pathways: High-road: stimulus follow path to brain cortex and would be analyzed and labelled before command sent out via the amygdala. Low-road: neural shortcut that bypasses the cortex which enables our fast emotional response before our intellect intervenes. Some emotional responses do not require conscious thinking.
