Document Summary
Problem solving- accomplishing a goal when the solution or the path to the solution is not clear. Many of the problems we face in life contain obstacles that interfere with our ability to reach our goals. Two common types of strategies that we use frequently: one is more objective, logical and slower, other is subjective, intuitive, and quicker. When we think logically, we rely on algorithms. Algorithms- problem-solving strategies based on a series of rules: logical, follow set of steps typically in a certain order, computers are a good example as they follow preprogrammed set of steps and do many operations every second. In contrast, people tend to focus more on intuition to find strategies and solutions that seem a good fit for the problem. Lost phone, more likely that it was left at friends not the bus so you call friend to ask rather than retracing your steps: approach that provides a reasonable guess for the solution.
