Document Summary

Article one- domain-specific physical activity and mental health: a meta-analysis - Mental ill-health accounts for a substantial proportion of the disease burden worldwide. Systematic reviews have shown that physical activity (pa) is associated with greater mental health and a reduced risk of mental ill-health, specifically depression and anxiety. The mental health benefits of physical activity are well established, but we don t know if this relationship is consistent across different life domains. Important to understand how context influences this relationship b/w mental health & pa so that policies can be put in place to maximize positive effect. Of the 98 included studied: 93 examined leisure-time physical activity, 14 examined work-related physical activity, 15 examines transport physical activity, 16 examined household physical activity, 3 examined school sport, 3 examined physical education. Multi-level meta-analyses showed that leisure time physical activity and transport physical activity both had a positive association w/ mental health.
