The modern orchestra is essentially designed to fit mozart"s & beethoven"s symphonies and today"s chamber-music repertory is based around the string- quartets and other pieces by these three (schubert) composers. What vienna attracted to some many musicians remains a mystery. This period in music roughly through 1750-1825 is known as the classic period and the music is known as classical music . Classical music actually spans a short moment in time, encompassing what might be a lifetime. They produced works against which as subsequent music was measured. It has balance, composure, and breadth along with a growing awareness of the kinship of humanity. Mozart"s opera din giovanni, can be seen as a subversive work in a repressive and authoritarian society; the opera makes a certain amount of social commentary. Beethoven"s fiery and heroic music representing triumph through struggle also reflects the period as his third symphony (eroica) was dedicated to napolean.
