How do we divide history into different periods such as the middle ages and early. Medieval: old-fashioned, primitive; relating to the middle ages. Middle ages: the period of european history from the fall of the roman empire in the west (5th century) to the fall of constantinople (1453), or, more narrowly, from circa 1100 to 1453. Black death: one of the most devastating pandemics in human history, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 75 to 200 million people and peaking in europe in the years 1346 53. Bubonic plague: a zoonotic disease, circulating mainly in fleas on small rodents, and is one of three types of bacterial infections caused by yersinia pestis (formerly known as pasteurella pestis), that belongs to the family enterobacteriaceae. Without treatment, the bubonic plague kills about two thirds of infected humans within four days. Unholy, or unclean people contracted the plague. Labour shortage results in movement into the cities.
