Paraphrasing catches the essence of what the client is saying. Reflecting feelings examines the complexity of emotions. Summarizing brings order and makes sense of client conversation. They have come to discuss their issues and resolve conflicts, so the session can rapidly become a depressing litany of failures and fears.
