In canada, growth of the older population is due to decreasing fertility rates after the baby boom and decreasing mortality rates (growth expected to level off after 2031) In developing countries, rates of older populations increase because of decreasing fertility rates and increasing sanitation and public health. Live in a society where older citizens are more active and healthy. Population aging effects all social life: work, family, leisure, transportation, politics, public policy, economy, housing, health care. We interact with other individuals and age cohorts across time and within a unique culture, social system, and community. Individuals and social institutions change as people age, so we do not age alone and do not always have control over our lifestyle or life course.
