FRHD 2110 Chapter Notes - Chapter 14: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Spina Bifida
Document Summary
Chapter 14: learners with physical disabilities and other health impairments. People with physical disabilities have two battles to fight: the battle to overcome the limitations imposed by their physical conditions and the battle to be accepted by others. Children with physical disabilities or other health impairments are those whose physical limitations or health problems interfere with school attendance or learning to such an extent that special services, training, equipment, materials, or facilities are required. They may be acute or chronic, episodic or progressive. They may be accompanied by other exceptionalities, such as an intellectual impairment, emotional/behavioural disorders, or by special gifts or talents. Major categories are neuromotor impairments, orthopedic or musculoskeletal disorders, and other conditions that affect health or physical abilities. In order for these children to succeed in school, there must be communication between physicians, and special educators to maintain the child"s health and at the same time develop whatever capabilities the child has.
