Chapter 6 attraction and love: attraction, attraction similarity. Idea that people tend to develop romantic relationships with those whose levels of physical attractiveness and other traits are similar to their own: propinquity. People we find attractive share our attitudes. Idea that opposites attract - false: physical attractiveness. What"s beautiful is good tendency for people to assume attractive people have more socially desirable personalities and are likely to be happier and more successful than less attractive people: non physical traits and attractiveness. Our perceptions of beauty are also affected by non-physical traits. We may find a partner beautiful beyond physical appearance due to traits such as familiarity, respect, liking, and shared values and goals. Many view gender differences in perception of attractiveness as highly sexist (emphasis of physical beauty for women and economic power and professional status for men represents a patriarchal (male dominated) society)
