FRHD 2100 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Vasopressin, Storge, Mania
Document Summary
Discuss the various perspectives on love (hint: a greek heritage, romantic love, contemporary models of love). The attraction-similarity hypothesis is the concept that people tend to develop romantic relationships with people who are similar to themselves in factors such as physical attractiveness, cultural background, personality traits, and interests. 95% of canadians choose partners (whether married or common-law) from their own racial backgrounds. We are less apt to be attracted to people who disagree with our views and tastes than we are to people who share them. That is, relationships are made in the neighbourhood, and not in heaven. We tend to live among and come in contact with people whose backgrounds are similar to ours. Evidence shows that women are more likely than men to place greater weight on similar attitudes as a determinant of attraction, whereas men are likely to place more value on physical attractiveness.
