Romantic relationships involve phases and stages 5 stage model: a = attraction. 2 people become aware of and find one another appealing. Enhanced attraction in a crowded room/ new class. Can be met through blind dates, computer, accidents: b = building. If stability is not balanced you may enter a stage of deterioration. Happens when relationship becomes less rewarding than before. Can be responded to actively or passively. Active = doing something to enhance the relationship (communication) or deciding to end the relationship. Passive = waiting for something to happen, doing little or nothing: wait for relationship to improve on its own/ Relationships draw to a close when the partners are less satisfied in the affiliation. Barriers to leaving the relationship are low, esp. when alternative partners are available. Jealousy and communication problems common reasons for termination. Belief that you can over come problem.
