Population aging: when the population contains a large portion of elderly people. It is expected to increase to 21. 2% in 20 years. 3 components that affect aging: mortality or death rates, fertility or birth rates, migration or movement of people internally and externally. Demographers: people who study changes in populations and are interested in the age of population because it"ll affect the need for resources (eg. Age dependency ratio: number of persons 65 years or older divided by the number of persons between 20 and 64 years old (working group able to support elderly) Youth dependency ratio: number of persons between 0 to 19 divided by the number of persons between 20 and 64 years old. Total dependency ratio: number of individuals plus the number of persons aged 65 years or older, divided by the number of individuals aged 20 to 64 years old.
