Accidental escape to south, central and north america. Originally thought to be a hybrid between african and european. Very fast migration and spreading, killing and hurting many people. Destroyed 80000 swarms / colonies during 1980s. Biological barrier at coastal lowland in mexico. First swarm captures by traps in taxes. Continued to spread rapidly to arizona, california, west of mississippi river, southern and middle florida. Did not spread eastward, dont know why. In 2013, they occupy georgia, tennessee, arkansas, oklahoma, utah, nevada, not. Migratory colonies, queens and packages were attributed for this spread. Using this pattern, biologies made a map to predict eventual distribution. This included areas where most of commercial queen breeders operate. Beekeepers carried them over the andes mountain chain to peru and spread northward to ecuador. In the west hemisphere, only canada, chile, and some small islands are free of this population. Africanized bees have nearly pure african material.
