Document Summary

Cardiac muscle & skeletal muscle, is striated and contains sarcomeres that shorten by sliding of thin and thick filaments. Skeletal muscle requires nervous stimulation to contract, Cardiac muscle can produce impulses and contract spontaneously. Smooth muscles lack sarcomeres, but contain actin and myosin. Cardiac and smooth muscles are involuntary effectors regulated by autonomic motor neurons. All types of muscle are believed to contract by means of sliding of thin filaments over thick filaments. The sliding of the filaments is produced by the action of myosin cross bridges in all types of muscles, and excitation contraction coupling in all types of muscles involves ca 2 + Myocardial cells are striated; actin and myosin filaments are arranged in sarcomeres, and contract by means of the sliding filament mechanism. Skeletal muscle cells: long, fibrous, and are structurally and functionally separated from each other.
