This is partially related to the limits of human technology; until recently, people have been restricted to their geographical horizons. Without the means to travel to distant places, observation of distant cultures was a difficult venture if not an impossible one. He rejected racism and promoted cultural relativism; the belief that all cultures are equally valid and must be studied on their own terms: british anthropologists a. r. Progress , like the industrial revolution the development of anthropological thought has been a long process, with each body of theories building on the strengths and addressing the weaknesses of previous perspectives. Although some of these theories have fallen out of favour, their very presence fuelled debate, encouraging further development. 3 major influences are evident in the development of canadian anthropology; museums, academic departments and applied research: canadian anthropologists have made many valuable contributions in many areas.
