79 views2 pages

Document Summary

Only have an effect on the cell if the cell has receptors. This binding changes the activities of the cell. Hydrophobic, need a transporter to travel in blood. Bound hormone: the portion attached to protein transporter. Unbound/free hormone: the portion that is not attached. Receptor inside the cell since they can pass through the plasma membrane. Receptors could be on membrane or inside the cell. Feedback system: the level of the hormone produced by a gland directly or indirectly affects the activity of that gland. Thyroid gland produces thyroid hormone, which its level is monitored by the anterior. Low levels of thyroid hormone ---> thyroid-stimulating hormone (tsh) is produced by the anterior pituitary, this stimulates the thyroid gland to produce more thyroid glands. High levels of thyroid hormone ---> anterior pituitary stops producing more tsh, this allows the level of thyroid hormone to drop down (cycle repeats) Adrenal medulla is directly stimulated by the sympathetic nervous system.
