Groups will do better than individuals if they are motivated to search for the sanswer that is best for the entire group and not just for themselves, and are relying on someone with experitise, Groups will do better if they divide/split up the tasks. Avoiding the group think trap: remain impartial, seek outside opinions, create subgroups, seek anonymous opinions. Group polarization tendency for groups to make decisions that are more extreme than the initial inclinations of their members: many studies have found groups will make riskier decisions than indivuduals will. Transactional leaders leaders who set clear, short teerm goals and reward people who meet them. Transfornational leaders leaders who inspire followers to focus on common, long term goals. The ideal leader will take skills of both types. Contingency theory of leadership theory that leadership effectiveness depends both on how task-oriented or relationship-oriented the leader is, and on the amount of control and influence the leader has over the group.
