Where the cow laid down he had to sacri ce her to the gods and the land she died in becomes. Thebes- he needs water for sacri ce and sends his slaves to get water. A serpent guarded the water stream- it belonged to ares. Cadmus kills the serpent after it kills his men. She tells cadmus to sow the serpents teeth into the ground. Men spring from the ground where the teeth were sowed, they kill each other and only ve survive. These men are the spartoi and they start the noble families of thebes. Cadmus has to appease ares for the death of the serpent. He becomes ares slave for a year after a tear he marries harmonia. Eventually the two go to greece and cadmus becomes king of illyrians and then when they die become great harmless serpents.
