Social order based on cooperaion, consensus, shared values. All parts of society serve a role to keep a state of balance. Compare society to the human body; dynamic equilibrium. Posiivist worldview: theoreical perspecive based on the belief that knowledge is built by studying observable facts and their relaionship to one another. Focuses on the journey of age cohorts (people born in the same period of ime) through the predetermined age grades. Each age grade as expectaions for roles and behaviour. Third age: ater the period of work and child rearing in the middle years; a period created by longer life expectancy and a longer period of good health in later life. Fourth age: groups of older people in a stage of cogniive and physical decline, illness, frailty, and disability the role of social structures in the process of individual aging and the straiicaion by age in the society. Relaionship between individual and society is a feedback loop.
