Correlation: correlation - relationship between at least two phenomena that are related, or occur together. Ex: adolescent men with athletic body type commit more delinquent act than whose physique is lean and fragile. Adolescent men + physique: correlations could be positive, negative or unrelated, positive - as one variable increases so does the other. Ex: the more deviant our friends are the more deviant we will be: negative - as one variable increases and other decreases. Peak ages for crime: age and sex are strong correlates of crime. For example number of crimes increased in the 1960s because of the baby boomers growing up. Number of crimes decreased in the 1990s because of the decrease in portion of peoples ages 15-24. Maturation reform: maturation reform - rapid decline of crime as adolescence move into young adulthood. As children move from being dependent on their parents to becoming adolescents they are faces with hard choices and issues.
