Mentall illness - thoughts, ,moods and behvaiours that all can cause significant distress and impairement of function for everyday life. 20-50% of us show mental health issues, mental health for men and women are the same, people with low socioeconomic status suffer form higher mental health issues. Mental disorder- impairement of everyday function whether that be psychological, bioligcal or behavioural. Rates of mental health are the same, however some disorders are found more heavily in either sex. Men are 3x more likely to have anti social personality disorder and women are more likely to experience depressive and anxiety disorders. Social causation hypothesis- more life stresses and fewer resources characterize the lives of the lower cass. Retreatism people give up on pursuing the goals as well as legitimate means of attaining those goals, including alchoholism. Social selection hypothesis- people in high socio economic means, go into a lower one due to thier depressive states.
