No t e b o o k: behavior mod. Behavioral chain: a complex behavior consisting of several component behaviors that occur together in a sequence. Often called a stimulus-response chain because each behavior produces a stimulus that acts as a discriminative stimulus for the next behavior. A series of behaviors are only a chain if they occur concurrently. Each behavior or response in a behavioral chain produces a stimulus change that acts as a discriminative stimulus for the next response in the chain. Task analysis: identification of the discriminative stimulus and response for each component of a behavioral chain. Identify all behaviors necessary to perform a certain task. Identify the discriminative stimulus associated with each behavior in the task. Some ways to identify the right sequence of behaviors are: Observe a person who is competent engage in the task. Ask an expert to explain all components of a task.
