Assessment: conducting a functional assessment is always the first step in using behavior modification procedure to decrease problem behaviors. Defining functional assessment: the process of gathering info about the antecedents and consequences that are functionally related to the occurrence of a problem behavior. Functions of problem behaviors: a primary purpose of a functional assessment is to identify the function of a problem behavior. Social negative rein forcement: when another person terminates an aversive interaction task, or activity after the occurrence of a target behavior, and as a result, the behavior is more likely to occur, ex. So info from interviews and questionnaires may be incorrect as a result of forgetting or bias: because of their convenience, used commonly, the interview is the most common assessment method used by psychologists. If the scatter plot shows that the problem behavior usually occurs at certain times of the day, you can then conduct abc observations at those times.
