Orchestra conductors- practice inner audition- practice without their orchestra by imagining a musical score in their minds. They imagine sounds of various instruments as well as their locations relative to the podium: mental time travel usually involves visual imagery. Visual imagery provides a way of thinking that adds another dimension to purely verbal techniques: its associated with discoveries by famous people, but also with most people"s everyday experiences. Wundt proposed that images were one of the three basic elements of consciousness, along with sensations and feelings. Also proposed that because images accompany thought, studying images was a way of studying thinking. Imageless-thought debate: is thinking possible without images, idea that there is a link between imagery and thinking, thought is impossible without images (aristotle) There were other arguments for and against this but they were ended when behaviorism toppled imagery from its central place in psychology.
