PSYCO212 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Interlibrary Loan, Belmont Report, Nuremberg Code
Document Summary
Done chapter 2: developing a good research idea and conducting an. No t e b o o k: research design. The most important reason not to base beliefs on personal experience is that we don"t take a comparison group into account. Experience is confounded; you think one thing caused an outcome, but other things changed too. Bushman examined catharsis in 2002 by having 600 undergraduates write a political essay and then being insulted about their work. The students were separated into three groups; 1 sat quietly for two minutes, 2 punched a punching bag for two minutes, and 3 punched a punching bag while imagining the insulter"s face. Those that imagined the insulter"s face subjected him to the loudest noise blasts. Inferences are not expected to explain all cases all the time in behavioral research. Intuition is not a good source of information because we are biased.
