Heart and vessels are located in the mediastinal space bw lungs and above the diaphragm from the centre to the left of thorax. Bw 2nd and 5th intercostal space, at the right sternal border to. 2nd and 5th ics at the left midclavicular line (mcl: precordium = the region or the thorax immediately in front of the heart. Base superior border of the heart bc it is broad: base of heart is at the right and left 2nd ics at the sternal border. Apex inferior border of the heart (opposite of lungs: apex is in the 5th left ics 7-9cm lateral to the midsternal line, apical pulse. Valves: av valves tricuspid valve and mitral valve, semilunar valves pulmonic valve and aortic valve. Pericardium adheres to the great vessels, esophagus, sternum, and pleurae, and is anchored to the diaphragm. Coronary arteries and veins: arises from the base and branch out to the apex of the heart.
