Human behavior is afected by a social world that imposes itself on us (even if we are not aware of it) Society, social structure, and culture are oten used interchangeably: sociocultural system: a term used by anthropologists, embodies this idea. A group of people within a limited territory who share a common set of behaviors, beliefs, values, material objects (together referred to as culture) and social insitutes, all exising together in a coherent system. In order to survive, people have to organize themselves into some kind of structure (that once they come into being can exist for long periods of ime: also have to construct rules of behavior. Power: the ability of an individual or group to carry out its will even when opposed by others, result of control one has over the resources of a society. Proximal relaions of power: relaions of power that exist between individuals within social group (power parent has over a child)
