A body of assumptions, ideas, and values that combine into a coherent world-view. Every ideology has, as its core, the assumption that our group"s beliefs and behaviours are morally grounded and superior to others" beliefs and behaviours. The rise of classes meant greater societal complexity and opposing class interests. A few people appropriate the surplus produced by others, which leads to gross inequalities of wealth and power. While many of us do not benefit from such an economic arrangement, most of us come to support it. The control that the ruling class has over a society"s belief system. Must be seen as the dominant ideology in all capitalist societies. Early liberalism was a criticism of the dominance and control of the feudal aristocracy. It is a world-view that gives prominence to the me" over the we" in society. Capitalism itself was simultaneously a step forward and a step backwards for humans.
