Category discrete grouping into which an individual"s symptoms are judged to it or not it. Dimension taxonomy an atribute is coninuous and can occur to various degrees: both must be clearly deined. Interrater reliability whether diferent diagnosicians use the same category to describe a person"s behaviour. Test-retest reliability whether the use of a category is stable over some reasonable period of ime. Validity a diagnosis should provide us with more informaion than we originally had when we deined the category: give informaion about the causes of the disorder, course of development, and response to treatment. Clinical uility how complete and useful a classiicaion system is.
