Chapter 1 introduction to human anatomy and physiology. Anatomy is the branch of science that deals with the structure of body parts (their forms and how they are organized) Physiology deals with the functions of these body parts (how they do it and what they do) The structures of body parts are so closely associated with their functions. For example, the organization of the part of the human hand make it easy to grasp objects. Also, the hollow chambers of the heart are adapted to pump blood through tubular blood vessels. Microscopic particles called atoms, join together to form molecule. All the cells in the human body contain organelles. Organelles are composed of macromolecules such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids. Different tissues interact to form organs, and organs come together to compose the organ system, which make up organisms. To be alive, one needs certain environmental factors: water, foods, oxygen, heat, pressure.
