Social psychology - study of causes & consequences of sociality. Social behaviour - how ppl interact w/ each other. Social influence - how ppl change each other. Social cognition - how ppl think about each other. All animals must survive & reproduce, & being social is one strategy for accomplishing 2 goals. Ultrasocial - form societies in which large numbers of indivs divide labour & cooperate for mutual benefit. Some scientists believe that complexity of living in large social groups is primary reason why nature endowed us w/ such big brains. To survive, animals must find resources such as food, water, shelter. Problem - resources necessarily scarce, b/c if they weren"t then population would increase until they were. Animals often solve problem by helping each other. Simplest way to solve problem of scarce resources - to take resources & stop anyone who tries to stop you. Aggression - behaviour w/ purpose of harming another.
