Treatment - getting help to those who need it. Personal costs of disorders involve anguish to sufferers as well as interference in ability to carry on activities of daily life. Personal & social burdens associated w/ mental disorders also enormous. Mental disorders typically have earlier ages of onset than physical disorders & are associated w/ significant impairments in form of inability to carry out daily activities such as days out of school/work/problems in family & personal r/s. Impairments associated w/ mental disorders are as severe & in many cases more severe than those associated w/ physical disorders such as cancer, chronic, pain, heart disease. Treatment rates higher for those w/ more severe mental disorders. Path from mental disorder to successful treatment often far less clear & many ppl less familiar w/ when they should seek treatment for mental disorder/where they should go. In case of mental disorders, ppl may fail to get treatment for number of reasons.
