PSYC 100 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: A Deeper Understanding, Reward System, Eyeblink Conditioning
Document Summary
Classical conditioning: the study of behaviours that are reactive. Conditioned emotional responses: the case of little albert. A study conducted by watson: when he presented a white rat to albert, he also struck a steel bar, which made albert associate his fear of the loud sound with the rat. Albert also showed stimulus generalization; the sight of a white rabbit, a seal-fur coat, and a santa claus mask produced the same kinds of fear reactions from him. Classical conditioning occurs when an animal has learned to set up an expectation. (the bell is always paired with the food, so dogs expect to see food when the bell is rung. Although pavlov may always bring the food, the dogs also see him during other activities, so they do not associate him with food. ) Conditioning would be easier when the cs is an unfamiliar event rather than familiar, because expectations will not yet be associated with them.
