Civil disobedience - deliberate lawbreaking that accepts punishment by state authorities as part of action. Form of highly political warfare built around lightly armed irregulars who oppose government & use hit and run tactics & political work to take power. Rebellion/revolt, usually employs tools of guerilla warfare. Deliberate use of violence designed to induce fear. People do not protest for no reason. Protest is means to seek political change. Usually employed after conventional approaches have failed. In non-democratic systems, may be only way to bring about change. Those holding power are not keen to see diminishing power.
