No harm, no fault; you can be fined but receive no criminal record for possession of. Drug possession is is punished and is much easier to prove than drug use. Is this why drug possession is criminalized further than use drugs. Drug use for medical purpose should not be criminalized. State freaks out when that same use is for a different purpose. Purpose is very important when discussing the criminalization or decriminalization of drugs. The argument really revolves around purpose behind use, not the use itself. People engage in recreational activities to seek pleasure, euphoria, satisfaction. If people are no longer subject to punishment for drug use/possession, the use/possession of that drug has in fact been decriminalized or some other positive psychological state. Are these options forms or punishment or alternatives to punishment. Prohibition restricted the production and sale of alcohol, not the possession. No law should be enacted unless it works.
