A lot more submissions from victims, perpetrators, etc. since so many devices have audio recording equipment. Is there enough speech for a good sample; need a range of the person"s speech sounds. But tv shows where they strip out background stuff to reveal a perfect studio recording is absolutely unrealistic however. Take criminal voice, take all the info out of the voice. Look for cues to the education, ethnic background. Police received tapes from someone who claimed to be the original ripper. Geographical accent analysis made on the recording to pin down areas of where the person may have come from. Then record speech from various regions within this area to match the sample more accurately. The mystery of the hoaxer (person who sent the tapes and the actual murderer were different) was solved later. The consonant and vowel sounds were listened to by the phonetician. Formants that represent resonances (bands of energy) Look for similarities and differences of formants.
