Maintain conservative political and moral views due to the confidential nature of their work: practice code of silence to protect fellow officers that are under investigation for misconduct. Protection based on in-group solidarity (blue wall: us vs them division, blue light syndrome: attitudes that focus on the narrow high-risk/action aspect of law enforcement. Group solidarity: source of support within the law enforcement community and helps officers cope with the stressful aspects of the job that may include the potential for violence and involvement in high-risk situations. Solidarity and organizational pride foster positive attributes (loyalty to the community, agency and its goals: officers may make personal sacrifices to provide public safety and care. Important new recruits maintain relationships and hobbies outside of law enforcement.
