Rcmp training: 6 months in regina; 6 months field training. Bc municipal police recruits train at the jibc: block 1 (13 weeks at the academy, block 2 ( 13-17 weeks of field training, block 3 (8 weeks back at the ji) Underlying theme is competency-based training, which focuses on acquiring specific testable skills and knowledge. Previously experienced officers (peos): in-service officers who are interested in leaving their current police service. In-service training: training courses for serving police officers. Use of war stories as a teaching tool. Perceptions attitudes and career orientations of police recruit officers in bc. Perception that policing is more challenging than other occupations, police are there mainly to serve the public, police work is more dangerous than other occupations. Cynicism increased during course of recruit training, negative view of cjs. Greater importance was assigned to apprehending criminals. Significant lessening of the view that policing is to serve the public.
