Graphics and image types: computer graphics = using a computer to create/manipulate any kind of pic, img, diagram. 2 basic ways to store an image in a computers: vector graphics. Vector format stores a description of the img, using various shapes like circles, lines, curves, etc. Most programs have the ability to include bitmaps in vector images, but this doesn"t make them paint programs: bitmaps = just 1 type of object that can be inserted into the vector img. Image is stored as a grid of small squares aka pixels that are each assigned a color. Vector img stores list of shapes in the img. 24-bit img can indicate any one of 2^24 colors for each pixel. Each of the components = stored on a scale to 2^8 = 256. This is usually enough colors b/c most people can"t distinguish between 2 colors that differ only b 1 unit.
