Edward t. hall - monochronic and polychronic time. Monochronic (north europe) = one thing at a time. Scheduling -> compartmentalizing; can concentrate on one thing at a time, but reduces context. Important things attended to first, allotted most time. Unimportant things done last/omitted if not enough time. Associated with reality, but is arbitrary and learned; not inherent/natural to man. Polychronic (mediterranean) = involvement in several things at once. Matters (seem) in constant state of flux; nothing is solidified, plans can always change. No need for delegation of authority i. e. bureaucratic levels to handle high volumes of. Flow of information complements people"s need to stay informed business; however, less suited to handle outsider problems. P-time analyses job, leaves scheduling up to employee -> reminds him that he is part of a larger system. M-time keeps employee on schedule but leaves job analysis up to him -> reduces context.
