Transformational leadership = process that changes & transforms ppl. Concerned w/ emotions, values, ethics, standards, lt goals. Incl. assessing followers" motives, satisfying needs, treating them as human beings. Transactional leadership = refers to bulk of leadership models, focus on exchanges b/t leaders. I. e. politicians promising no new taxes , managers offering promotions, etc. In contrast, transformational leadership is when person engages w/ others & creates connection to increase motivation & morality. Leaders act as strong role models for followers. Leaders communicate high expectations to followers, inspire them thru motivation to share org vision. Stimulates followers to be creative & innovative, engage in problem-solving. Leaders who provide a supportive climate, act as coaches. Leader tries to obtain agreement from followers on what to do & payoffs. Active form: watch followers closely for mistakes/violations, then take corrective action. Treats leadership as a process occurring b/t followers & leaders. Provides broader view of leadership that augments other leadership models.
