Process =/= trait or characteristic, but rather a transactional event. Process implies leader affects & is affected by followers (not linear) As groups dvlp over time, group prototype also dvlps. Indivs emerge as leaders when they become most like group prototype b/c makes them attractive & gives them influence. Position power = power person derives from particular rank in formal org system. Personal power = derived from being seen as likable & knowledgeable. Trait perspective = indivs have special innate/inborn charac that make them leaders. Process viewpoint = leadership resides in context of interactions b/t leaders & followers. Assigned leadership = formal position in org. Emergent leadership = way other group members respond to leader, seen as most influential. More likely w/ males more dominant, more intelligent, more confident.
